Dear Morris Grade School Families,
This letter is to update you about the bomb threat that we received this evening. Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.
This evening, a hand-written note was found on Bus 23 as it arrived in Gardner for a baseball game which indicated the desire to blow up the school. After conferring with the superintendent and local law enforcement, it was decided to immediately evacuate the building and grounds. With the help of the Morris Police Department, district personnel, US Marshalls, and Kane County Sheriff's Department K9 Units searched the interior and exterior of the building and campus for explosives and nothing was found. The police department and school personnel are now investigating the source of the threat.
Classes will resume as usual tomorrow. However, there will be an increased police presence in and around the school. Counselors will be available if any students would like to talk to someone about this event.
All threats to our school or students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. We wanted you to have the facts so you can discuss them with your child and emphasize the seriousness of this issue. If you discover anything that can assist in the investigation, please contact us immediately.
Please feel free to call me at 815-942-0056 or email me at draffel@morris54.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mr. Dave Raffel
District Principal
