Morris Braves Track Athletes and Parents, Due to the forecasted weather, Track practice will be cancelled for tonight Thursday 4/8

Dear Morris Grade School 6th grade girls basketball parents,
Unfortunately due to low numbers this season for 6th grade girls basketball, we will not be able to fill the required number of players for a team, so we will have to cancel the 6th grade girls basketball season. However, the 7th and 8th grade seasons will proceed as scheduled and those 5th and 6th grade girls who are currently out for the team will be able to play out the season with the 7th grade team. It is unfortunate, but hopefully by next year we will be back to a sense of normalcy and will be able to host all levels of all of our sports. If you do have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. kanderson@morris54.org

I am so proud of our school community and all the work that has been done to provide each individual student and family the best educational opportunities and experiences as we continue to work through our current world situation. As we begin the next chapter of this journey, I want to point out a few adjustments and changes to our systems to help us make it through the next 9 Week period.
Students who elected to come back for the 2nd Nine Weeks may start attending on October 26th. We will send more information with specifics to these families early next week to help with their transition.
Families may choose to go fully remote at any time. Students will not be allowed to come back to hybrid learning until the start of the 3rd Nine Weeks (January 19, 2021).
Remote Students will need to check in by 9 am. This will help with attendance reporting we are required to do by the state board of education.
On the following dates, there will be no student attendance and ALL kids will be home to do remote learning:
November 4, 2020
November 18, 2020
December 2, 2020
December 9, 2020
Remote Learning assignments will be posted for all students by 9 am. Teachers will not have office hours on these days, but are available via email.
Thank you again for all the support and cooperation. We will continue to work hard and do our best to provide the quality education you have come to expect from Morris 54.

Postponing Fall Parent Sports Meeting...Due to the current situation and the decision of the IESA to cancel early fall sports, tonight's fall parent sports meeting will be postponed until a later date when an update or proper guidelines have been released from the ISBE, IDPH, and IESA which will allow us to safely commence our sports programs. Information and updates regarding athletics will continue to be posted via our social media outlets. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. As always Thank You and Go Braves!

Dear District 54 and Morris Families,
I just wanted to give you an update on the current decision that the IESA has made with regard to early fall sports. At this time they have decided to cancel regular seasons and state series of boys and girls golf, boys baseball, girls softball, and boys and girls cross-country for the 2020-21 school year. They have also stated that there will not be any modifications to the schedules or timing of these seasons. With regards to Soccer and Cheer we are still waiting for clarification and I will post that information when a decision is made. Although this is not the news that we wanted to hear, the IESA has held off on cancelling anything else at this time in hopes that we will still be able to hold our other sports. All those that have completed the registration process and paid will have their money refunded.
I will keep you updated with any new information. See here to read the entire statement from the IESA https://www.iesa.org/

Given that this is an unprecedented time that we are living through, especially in regards to athletics, there may be some modifications to the game play, schedule, seating, season etc... But know that we at District 54 believe in the importance of our interscholastic athletic programs, and that we are working diligently in order to create a safe environment for our athletes to compete.
Stay Safe and I will keep you posted with any new information
Thank you and Go Braves!

As for now, some important upcoming dates...Softball Tryouts will be Tuesday and Wednesday July 28-29, 9-10:30am at West Side Park across the street from Morris Grade School. Baseball tryouts will be held on Monday-Tuesday August 3-4, 9-10:30am at Roth Field. The first Cross Country practice will be held on Monday August 10th, 9-10:30am. A starting date for soccer has not been settled on at this point, however I will post that information when it becomes available.

In order to ensure everyone’s safety at this time I will be hosting a parent meeting online via "Google Meets" on Monday July 27th from 6-7pm. If you have a google account use the following code: qdk-eadw-uhs. If you do not have a google account enter the following weblink to enter the meeting: meet.google.com/qdk-eadw-uhs. I highly encourage all of our families with athletes to join in this meeting, especially those with incoming 6th graders, as we will be going over the Return to Play guidelines, registration processes, verification forms as well as other important information.

Update on Fall Athletics...Dear District 54 and Morris Families, Due to the current situation with COVID 19, the IESA is currently in a holding pattern with Fall Athletics. They will be releasing information regarding Athletics this Friday July 24th. Hopefully at that time we will have the protocols and processes needed to commence our fall athletics as safely as possible. Until that time we will proceed with our athletic sign ups as usual on our athletic website (https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/). Just click on "Registration" on the grey bar and follow the prompts.
A few reminders…Remember that all athletes must be registered on our athletic website (https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/) with all forms read and verified and have an up-to-date physical on file with our nurses at District 54, PRIOR to participation in either practices or tryouts.

“ROCK”
By Lucy Cook
I tripped on a rock outside
Then fell to the ground with a cry
My head cracked open and I died
Tears ran from people’s eyes
At my funeral I got out of my casket
Everyone screamed and made a racket
Then I woke up from my sleep
I was so very confused

Retiring 5th grade teacher, Sue Farber, was surprised today by many former students of her first fifth grade class! These students were 5th grade students in the 2012-2013 school year and will be entering their senior year of high school in the fall. Mrs. Farber has taught several grades in the district since 1986, was a PE teacher for many years, and went back into the classroom teaching fifth grade in 2012. She has made an impact on so many and will be missed! ❤️

After the kids left today, we celebrated our amazing and dedicated retirees! Fran Rosa, custodian for 19 years, Susan Farber, teacher for over 33 years, and Karin Weaver, teacher for over 18 years, were honored by fellow teachers and staff! We can’t thank you all enough for your love and dedication to District 54! You will be missed! ❤️
