Dear District 54 Families,

I am happy to announce that due to our regions movement to Tier 1 mitigations, we will once again be able to offer the sports of Volleyball and Basketball with certain restrictions which are explained below:

Medium Risk Sports (Volleyball)

Practice:

Athletes must be meeting all eligibility requirements- academic compliance, current physical on file, etc. Full practices may be conducted. These are considered regular season practices. Try-outs may be conducted and would be considered/counted as a practice. Intrasquad scrimmages may be conducted with parental consent.

Contests

Inter-scholastic contests may be conducted with opponents within conference or EMS regions. All contests must be conducted with opponents at a mitigation level that allows contests to be played. A minimum of 7 days of practice must be completed prior to participation in a contest.

Fans

No spectators will be allowed at this time.

High Risk Sports (Boys Basketball)

For Basketball, due to restrictions, we will only be able to hold regular practices with Intrasquad Scrimmages.

If you are interested in signing your child up for Volleyball or boys Basketball please follow the link to our Athletic website for Registration https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/.

Athletes will need to be registered with our system on 8to18 with all forms verified and have an UP TO DATE SPORTS PHYSICAL on file with our nurse PRIOR to tryouts or any participation.

Athletes are responsible for transportation to and from practices.

Health monitoring will still be completed by coaches, locker rooms will not be available, and for the time being masks must still be worn during practices. Please remember to bring your own water to practices as sharing of water is prohibited and fountains will not be available.

6th, 7th, and 8th grade Volleyball Tryouts will be held on Monday, January 25th and Tuesday, January 26th from 3:30-5pm in the Main and Small Gyms at Morris Grade School (2001 DuPont Ave.).

6th, 7th, and 8th grade Boys Basketball Developmental League will begin Monday, January 25th from 3:30-5pm in the Main and Small Gyms at Shabbona (725 school street).

As this is an ever evolving situation we need to remain flexible and patient. Schedules may change due to changing circumstances, but we at District 54 are excited to be able to once again offer our students the opportunity to compete in our extracurricular activities.

 Go Braves!
