Caila Smith's 8th grade students have been working all year on a cumulative project called Genius Hour, an opportunity for students to research and present on a topic of their choosing. Students are asked to consider: What do I care about? Who am I? How can I contribute to my community? What problems do I see in our world? This year, two students are focusing their efforts on raising money for local organizations and programs. Please consider helping these young people in their endeavors to make their community a better place by supporting causes that they care about!

We are so excited to have Pam's corn dog truck at Morris Grade School this Friday, April 23, 2021 for our Food Truck Friday Event! Because kids love these corn dogs just as much as us, we are allowing parents to purchase lunch for their student(s) from the food truck, if they choose. Parents can come to the food truck, make their purchase and drop it off in the main office for their student(s). The office will call down your student(s) to pick up the food to take back to class. Please plan ahead if this is something that you would like to do, as we can not predict the wait times or how busy the office may be. As a reminder these are the student lunch times: 6th/7th - 11:00-11:30 K/1st - 12:10-12:40 (Vavra and Olson 1st), 2nd/5th - 12:45-1:15 3rd/4th - 1:20-1:50

Athletic Update and Reminder. Due to the Election Day on Tuesday 11/3, there will not be any contact day practices for Girls or Boys Basketball. Also as a reminder, if your child has already been registered in either Softball, Baseball, or Cross Country, the only form that needs to be completed prior to participation is the Parent Consent for Participation form and have an Up To Date Sports Physical on file with our nurse. (6th grade physicals can double as sports physicals). If your child was not registered for any of those sports, then they will need to have all of the following forms signed and turned into the main office or coach prior to participating in our Contact Day practices. They may turn them into their coach the day of practice. Up to date Sports Physical on file with our nurse, Signed IESA concussion protocol form, Proof of Medical Insurance form, Signed Consent and Release Waiver.

I am so proud of our school community and all the work that has been done to provide each individual student and family the best educational opportunities and experiences as we continue to work through our current world situation. As we begin the next chapter of this journey, I want to point out a few adjustments and changes to our systems to help us make it through the next 9 Week period. Students who elected to come back for the 2nd Nine Weeks may start attending on October 26th. We will send more information with specifics to these families early next week to help with their transition. Families may choose to go fully remote at any time. Students will not be allowed to come back to hybrid learning until the start of the 3rd Nine Weeks (January 19, 2021). Remote Students will need to check in by 9 am. This will help with attendance reporting we are required to do by the state board of education. On the following dates, there will be no student attendance and ALL kids will be home to do remote learning: November 4, 2020 November 18, 2020 December 2, 2020 December 9, 2020 Remote Learning assignments will be posted for all students by 9 am. Teachers will not have office hours on these days, but are available via email. Thank you again for all the support and cooperation. We will continue to work hard and do our best to provide the quality education you have come to expect from Morris 54.

Morris Grade School Parents, We are continuing to prepare for the upcoming school year and appreciate everyone's patience as we get ready for school year like no other. There are a few things we need from you: 1. Please double check your house for any school textbooks or Library Books. We are still missing some that were not returned at the end of last year. If you have any of these books, please drop them off at the school between 9 am-3 pm Monday-Thursday. We needs these back ASAP in order to prepare to pass them out for the upcoming school year. 2. Most of you have filled out the Return to Learn form for your child. We still have a large number of families that need to complete the registration paperwork in Powerschool. Your child will not be placed on a class roster if these forms are incomplete. We hope to have class rosters complete and available by August 17th. If you need help filling out the online registration forms, please call the office between 9am-3 pm Monday-Thursday. Thank you for your help in these areas that will help us continue to get ready for the 2020-2021 school year!

Dear District 54 and Morris Families, Unfortunately, due to Soccer being placed in the medium category by the Governor's office, which does not allow for competitions, we will be suspending the soccer season at this time. Right now we are trying to remain flexible and work within the directives put forth from the state to provide all the opportunities for athletics that we can. I will keep you posted with any updates. Dear District 54 and Morris Families, It looks like we are back in action for most early fall sports. The IESA has just released a statement reversing their decision to cancel some early fall sports. At this time Morris Grade School will move forward with Baseball, Softball, and XC. These sports were allowed to move forward as they have been classified as sports with low contact by the Governors office and IDPH. Please see the weblink for the official statement from the IESA https://www.iesa.org/

Postponing Fall Parent Sports Meeting...Due to the current situation and the decision of the IESA to cancel early fall sports, tonight's fall parent sports meeting will be postponed until a later date when an update or proper guidelines have been released from the ISBE, IDPH, and IESA which will allow us to safely commence our sports programs. Information and updates regarding athletics will continue to be posted via our social media outlets. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. As always Thank You and Go Braves!

Dear District 54 and Morris Families, I just wanted to give you an update on the current decision that the IESA has made with regard to early fall sports. At this time they have decided to cancel regular seasons and state series of boys and girls golf, boys baseball, girls softball, and boys and girls cross-country for the 2020-21 school year. They have also stated that there will not be any modifications to the schedules or timing of these seasons. With regards to Soccer and Cheer we are still waiting for clarification and I will post that information when a decision is made. Although this is not the news that we wanted to hear, the IESA has held off on cancelling anything else at this time in hopes that we will still be able to hold our other sports. All those that have completed the registration process and paid will have their money refunded. I will keep you updated with any new information. See here to read the entire statement from the IESA https://www.iesa.org/

Given that this is an unprecedented time that we are living through, especially in regards to athletics, there may be some modifications to the game play, schedule, seating, season etc... But know that we at District 54 believe in the importance of our interscholastic athletic programs, and that we are working diligently in order to create a safe environment for our athletes to compete. Stay Safe and I will keep you posted with any new information Thank you and Go Braves!

Update on Fall Athletics...Dear District 54 and Morris Families, Due to the current situation with COVID 19, the IESA is currently in a holding pattern with Fall Athletics. They will be releasing information regarding Athletics this Friday July 24th. Hopefully at that time we will have the protocols and processes needed to commence our fall athletics as safely as possible. Until that time we will proceed with our athletic sign ups as usual on our athletic website (https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/). Just click on "Registration" on the grey bar and follow the prompts. A few reminders…Remember that all athletes must be registered on our athletic website (https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/) with all forms read and verified and have an up-to-date physical on file with our nurses at District 54, PRIOR to participation in either practices or tryouts.
