Dear District 54 Parents and Athletes,

With the State of Illinois announcing that Region 2, which includes Grundy County, has moved to Phase 4 mitigations, Morris Grade School will be moving forward with Spring Athletics, including Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Track, and Wrestling!

Furthermore, unlike in the past, due to the specific circumstances this year, we are allowing athletes to participate in multiple sports if they would like, however they must communicate with their coaches and be able to commit to both sports.

If interested in participating in Morris Grade School Girls Basketball, Track, or Wrestling please have the following completed prior to Friday March 12th:

  • Up to date sports physical on file with our Nurse. (6th grade physical doubles as sports physical however if you are out of district we still require a copy)
  • Be registered on our athletic website https://il.8to18.com/ShabbonaMS/ (Click on the link and the gray registration tab and follow the prompts. Forms do not need to be printed and signed only verified)

At this time masks must be worn throughout practice, unless the player is taking water. Daily health screening will be monitored by coaches as players enter the gymnasiums. At this time there will be no spectators for games but we will be live streaming the games. There is not an IESA State Series (Regional, Sectional, or State) for girls basketball this year.

Track (6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Boys and Girls): Morris Grade School will not have formal tryouts for boys or girls track. There is a tentatively scheduled State Series (Sectional and State) for track. However, the IESA is awaiting word from the State of Illinois to see if those state series events can take place. Daily health screening will be monitored by coaches as players enter the Track/Gymnasium. The IESA is awaiting word from the State of Illinois and IDPH on if we will be allowed to have spectators, so we will keep you posted. The first track practice is Monday March 15 3:30 to 5pm students are to meet in the Morris Grade School Main Gym. Track practice will transition to the High School track when the weather clears, coach Guilinger and Hood will provide more information with the practice schedules.

Morris Grade School will be doing our best to provide transportation to Shabbona Gym and Morris Community High School for practices and games.

We are very happy to be able to offer our spring sports to our students, however we do want to remind you that this is a fluid situation and changes to the schedules may occur as a result of the situation. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we move forward.

Thank you and Go Braves!
