July 15, 2020

Families of the Graduating Class of 2020,

On behalf of the Morris Elementary School District #54 Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Shannon Dudek, and the faculty and staff, we would like to congratulate you and your student on their academic accomplishments this school year!

The Morris Grade School Graduate Recognition Ceremony has been set for Thursday, July 30, 2020. Due to the current circumstances this event is intended for parents/guardians, siblings and graduates. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 P.M. at the Goold Park Bandshell on the East side of the park (close to Fulton Street).  Graduates should meet behind the bandshell at 6:00 pm. The entire ceremony should be concluded by 7:00 pm.

Families should enter the park via Union Street.  Parking options are the lot across from the high school in Goold Park, the lot across from the Morris Pool or street parking. Northern Avenue (the street that runs through the park) will be closed between the pool and Lisbon Street that evening.  There will be no audience seating provided, families may bring their own lawn chairs/seating. It is recommended for masks to be worn if social distancing can not take place during the ceremony.

Graduates will be lined up (6ft apart) and must wear a mask until they are next to be called. They may remove their mask when their name is called and they walk across the stage to receive their diploma.  Students should wear appropriate footwear and their gown (cords and medals should also be worn if applicable). A portion of the graduate walk will be in the grass at the park. A professional photographer will be at the graduation ceremony taking pictures of students receiving his/her diploma.  This photo will be sent home at a later date, at no charge.  After all graduates have been recognized, they will be officially announced as graduates and then may join their families.

We understand that some may not be comfortable with this type of public event. If your family chooses not to attend, other options will be made available. Please take a moment to complete the attached form to RSVP your graduate. https://bit.ly/D54grade82020 RSVP’s must be submitted by Monday, July 20th in order to attend the ceremony. If you have trouble filling out the form, please contact the office to RSVP your graduate.

Educationally,

Mr. David C. Raffel Jr.
