It is the job of the eighth grade team to prepare the student to enter into and succeed in high school. This is done through the teaching of note taking skills, the reinforcement of independent study skills and critical thinking. Additionally, one quarter of computer applications is required of each eighth grader. Elective classes include art, band, and choir. Students also participate in physical education all year.
It is required by state mandate that all eighth grader pass an exam on both the US Constitution and the Illinois State Constitution. In conjunction with academic skills, social skills of conflict resolution, self-respect and consideration for others are promoted through the Second Step program.
